Yeah, I've burnt out plenty too.
But, the only way they burn out is by running more than 2ma into the bias
control (pin 5).
Since this shd be driven by a high impedance (current) source, you can put
say 10K
in series with it, and then you can't force a fatal amount of current into it.
A lot of problems with OTAs (ESPECIALLY LM13600s) is due to driving the
control current
from a voltage, not a current source. A voltage to current convertor is
always worth
using.. they behave badly at the low current end of the scale, otherwise.
