David @ R&D Technologies asks:
I have recently purchased a Korg DSS1 sampling keyboard from a local pawn
shop for $200.00. Could anyone send or fax me a copy of the instruction
manual? I understand that there is a memory upgrade and a SCSI port option
but I have been unable to locate any information about it.
I am suprised that there are no sounds built into ROM and since I don't
have a manual, I don't know if this is normal or if it has problems. I
looked through the code that was in the (5) EPROM's but only saw code that
seemed to be part of the operating system.
I don't know assembly language (yet) so I might of missed something. If
someone out there has any schematics and/or upgraded memory and SCSI port
EPROM code that I could copy or purchase, I would be grateful.
I have been experimenting with the Parrelax Basic Stamp microcontroller.
If I could get enough info on the Korg circuitry, maybe I could replace the
old 12 bit sampling circuitry with 16 bit and greatly expand the memory and
disk storage. A hard drive would be nice.
I have allot of PC experience that I can share. I am still disappointed
with the fact that I have this massive computer with 64mb of memory and a
32 bit sound card but I can't, for example, record a sample, assign an
original key, and then play the sample at different speeds the way that the
Korg does. It seems that all of the necessary hardware is in the PC, only
the code to manipulate it is missing. The best that I have been able to do,
with existing software, is to record a .wav file and then have it played at
a given time. I am using Midisoft's Midi Workshop. Perhaps there is better
software that I am unaware of.
If anyone has any info on the above subjects or if I can help in any way
with PC or digital questions please post them.
