PCB etching and layout

Hi (synth-diy),

I'm doing my PCB's as outlined in Electronotes PCC.
That is I'm painting on the copper a design very
similar to the circuit diagram, etching, then surface
mounting the components.

A. If anyone else is doing this, what type of paint
works best? I've heard etch resist pens don't last
long.

B. What do you use to remove the paint after etching
(what is most effective)?

C. If I do decide to do a PCB layout, does anyone
know a layout program for Macintosh? I want cheap
(ie. shareware) software if possible. I haven't
found any on the net as yet.

Thanks
