Exactly my thoughts. The stereo output is impressive, but a little
exaggerated, and not at all mono compatible.
So the right way to do it is 2 separate ladders.
>How noisy is it without the 4007 circuit?
I haven't checked yet. The most astounding thing for me was how
absolutely noise-*free* it is with this cheap little compander.
I think I have heard some popping with very fast transients, however.
The compander is quite on the fast side.
While I have to check the noise without compander, here's an idea:
I think that the SNR would be similar to any device that uses a single,
nonlinearized pn junction as VC resistor. So maybe we could use
several pn junctions in series for each stage (the HiFli trick):
What about connecting several diodes in series to each transistor's
base? The DC voltage over the ladder would be multiplied as well,
of course, but we could simply use a larger supply voltage ...
Have to check if it works.
JH.
