CCT idea for random voltage

I was after a circuit to produce a random voltage at intervals. At first I
had the idea of a pulse LFO triggering a Sample & Hold sampling another LFO
at a different frequency (or noise source). The idea was to step the
circuit from a keyboard pulse, creating a new voltage (e.g.. for filter
cutoff) every note or drive it from an LFO.

Then I thought, how about a pseudo random binary sequence (shift register,
with XOR feedback) and using the parallel outputs to drive a DAC? Found the
bits to breadboard it up when I discovered I haven't got the pinouts for
the ZN428 I had lying around. Anyone able to help?
