ANNOUNCING THE RELEASE OF SYNTHBUILDER BETA27

Mountain View, California, July 23, 1997 -- Staccato Systems Inc,
announces the availability of the award winning computer music
application, SynthBuilder, version Beta 27 for NeXT and Intel NeXTStep
platforms (3.2 and 3.3).

SynthBuilder is a graphical, extensible, object-oriented, NeXTStep
application for interactive real-time design of synthesizer patches.
It was written by Nick Porcaro, David Jaffe, Pat Scandalis, Julius
Smith, and Tim Stilson, with contributions by Scott Van Duyne. It was
part of the Stanford University Sondius project, and is now being further
developed by Staccato Systems.

SynthBuilder can be downloaded from http://www.StaccatoSys.com, under the
SynthBuilder link, or from ftp://ftp.StaccatoSys.com. The NextStep
version of SynthBuilder is royalty free, and auth codes to enable all
of its features can be obtained from the Staccato Web site.

According to Professor Julius Smith, "For the past several years
SynthBuilder has been an effective rapid prototyping tool for physical
modeling synthesis algorithms developed at Stanford's Center for
Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA)".

SynthBuilder developer Nick Porcaro notes that "We've been
using SynthBuilder [at CCRMA] to develop physical models as
well as effects and other audio algorithms. Hopefully soon lots of folks
will be making wild patches that we never would have thought of".

Staccato is also developing Windows, Mac and Rhapsody versions of
SynthBuilder for release sometime in 1998, with pricing to be determined.
