Simulation Vs Real Things

One thing I don't think was mentioned in this discussion is that there is a good deal of reliability and repeatability (and possibly flexibility if it's designed in - or not) of the software based approach. Modern technology has given us all that. Computer based instruments should be absolutely repeatable. Randomness can be programmed in. Virtual patch cords are certainly more reliable than the real thing. The only things lacking is maybe the tactile pleasure you get from handling a patch cord and the actually seeing the patch.
