hi there,
 
 my name is justin and i'm very new to the idea of building my own analog
synth, but very intrigued as well!  i was going to school for electical
engineering, but stopped after 2 years and didn't get that circuit theory
class in (doh!)...  i do, however, have an interest and some patient
EE friends that might be able to walk me through some schematics.

the reason for my posting is that i've been trolling through web pages for
a while now and most of what i come across is very specific info on how
to do XXX or make XXX chip do this adn that... i was wondering if anyone
could point me in the direction of a good background site, or book, or
shematic that would help me get started..  

a few specific questions i have are:
 what kind of chip should i buy as my first VCO?  
 how long can i expect it will take before i hear my first squelches?

i'm more interested in experimenting and learning on my own than building
something from a kit and never knowing how it really works...
