Mad Synthesist Dave Garfield Responds:
I used to suffer needlessly from *Bad Tuning Response* with my Matrix-6,
and shelled out $75(!) just to have the Pitch Bend & Mod pots cleaned!
NEVER AGAIN, I vowed! The "secret" to keeping the Matrix-6/6R (I
presume it works for both, since they're basically the same beast) is to
turn it on, let it warm up for about 5 or 10 minutes to stabilise all
those li'l goodies inside, then...<an awed silence falls over the group>
in MASTER mode, go to #52 - CALIBRATE, hit "YES" in response to
"READY?", and sit back while the magic happens! In about 6 seconds (and
maybe some very quiet sweepy sounds), Calibration will be finished.
Then hit the TUNE button, just to make sure. If it Still seems out of
tune, move the Pitch and Mod levers (Calibrate seems to reset the "Zero
Point" of the pots). I would recommend jiggling the levers Before
Calibration, to insure that the return springs center the levers. An
occasional press of the TUNE button may be necessary in 'pitch-critical'
cases. Using this method, I've Never had a problem matching the tuning
of anything else playing along with it! Of course, if you or any of
your I-M force are caught or killed...OOPS! Wrong Train of Thought! Of
course, if anyone has any Different Tricks, Tips or Techniques, hearing
of them would be Greatlly Appreciated! THANKS!
In Analogue Nirvana,
Dave Garfield
