Tempco Resistor in Modulus VCO

Hello!

I have a maybe stupid question about the VCO described in Modulus nr2.

The text says "The tempco resistor is optional, It'll work without but not as stable". Does this mean that the VCO will work without the tempco resistor, or that the tepmco resistor should be replaced by a 1k resistor?

I would be grateful for a answer to this so I can finnish the construction.
