Be careful with 3.5 mm sockets - they are the bane of my life on roland 100M
gear.
But if anyone is looking for a lot of pcb mount 3.5mm sockets I accidentally
bought 1000 from a taiwanese catalog (thought they were a good
price.....thought they were 6mm!)

listening to the VCS3 i think much of the character comes from the spring
reverb - which at least on mine seems to function as an extra oscilator
thanks to the internal speaker

One thing that we can learn from the VCS3 is that sometimes "function
follows form".
It was designed before the analog synthesis field stabilised, and designed
around parts that were cheap and available at the time. I find it appeals
strongly to many people who have no interest in any other analog gear. I
suppose the most heretical thing one could do would be to replace the patch
panel by one of those pressure sensitive panel switch matrixes - which you
could, if insane, make from disposal keypads, but to be functional you
really would need latching leds underneath.

What i can't understand is why, no matter what I do, it always sounds like
Dr Who.
