You can cut aluminum with a carbide-tipped blade. It's probably easier on
the blade than some hardwoods.
Having it sheared at a local metal or sign shop, or HVAC company is
convenient but you don't know how accurate or clean a job they'll do until
it's done. Their work is less precise and cosmetically demanding than front
panels for a prize synth. You could have them do the rough cuts and then
piece it out yourself.
Whatever you do, get a drill press with a vise for drilling the holes--it's
SO MUCH easier. I've seen cheap, Chinese-made vises with feed screws at
very reasonable prices recently. This would be great for drilling PC
boards, too.
