Have a look at http://www.blaze.net.au/~sasami/synth/
The four ETI gifs contain a construction article on a log/exp converter
based around the 3046. The gifs are large, suitable for printing.
>For my -log(1/x) circuit I'm using an LM3046 transistor array with the

>where the other three transistors in the 3046 (other than the two used for
>the actual calculation) are used to sense the temperature of and heat up
>the 3046, regulating the temperature. My experiments seem to indicate that
>which transistor is the heater, which one is the clamp, and which one is
>the heater makes a BIG difference, like the difference between it working
>and not. What I need to know from people who have built the Formant filter
>is what the pinouts are on the schematic of the temperature regulator. I've
>already tried two different combinations. One was completely inoperative,
>and one seemed to kind of work, but was very slow to correct the temp.
