Faceplates

I received a letter a few weeks ago saying that 3M Dynamark has been
discontinued. I am very dissapointed because I was able to make some great
looking faceplates with relatively little effort. But....the same letter
mentioned a bunch of products I had not heard of:

1) Quick-Mark which is supposed to be like Dynamark.
2) GedaColor which sounds a bit like metal Dynamark.
3) Xyron
4) Dynalazer which is a plastic film that comes in many colors including a
metalic version that looks a bit like aluminum. Cool thing is that you just
stick it in your lazer and print on it....Voila faceplate.

I received small samples of the Quick-Mark and Dynalazer and some price
sheets and stuff if anyone is interested. The company that sent me the info
is Vital Presentation Concepts. 1-800-447-1944 or www.vpcinc.com although I
did not find their web site very informative.

Has anyone ever tried these products?

I also tried caustic etching aluminum and screen printing this weekend.
What a lot of work compared to dynamark. Looks like it will take a bit of
practice getting the right shade of matte black. With the ink I am using
you have to mix the flattening powder with gloss black enamel to get a
matte or satin finish. The proportions are a mistery and will require some
experimenting. Anyone out there have any experience with flattening powder?
Screenprinting is definetely a labour of love.
