Enough about MIDI, already!

1. This list isn't intended for "most musicians". It's intended for
people that like to build synths. Most musicians are happy to go
buy the latest Korg workstation at the store, rather than build
their own stuff.
2. No thread is for everyone. I'm not really interested in op-amps
myself, so I skip those messages.
3. Synth-diy is a friendly, flame-free group ... until now.
People that like to build things like to talk about solving problems,
and personally, I've found this discussion very interesting. While
MIDI is stable and sufficient, it's limited. Wouldn't it be great to
be able to daisy-chain all your gear together with a single ring of
cables, instead of an expensive "star" configuration? How about to
transmit samples to your sampler very quickly? To send and receive
patch information instantaneously? To have guaranteed dead-on timing,
maybe due to the ability to transmit note information ahead of time?
To not be limited to 16 discrete channels? Hell, to display sheet
music on the video screen of your Roland Z2001?
> Go back to your x0x - infested excuse for music and whining.
Whatever.
I don't own a x0x box. I don't do techno. I very firmly consider
myself a "real musician". And I'm not whining. I'm expressing
interest in a technical subject. *You* are whining.
Remember the #1 rule of mailing lists: Fer chrissakes, if a thread
bothers you so much, don't read it.
