Project thoughts

This wouldn't be MP controlled at all! PC joysticks are simple potentiometers.
It's the interface cards that contain the caps, IIRC. To program a joystick read,
you "short the cap" and wait for it to charge back up. The length of the charge
is your "position".

Well, that's way more work than you should have to do. I was out of town when
I started dreaming this one up, so I might be wrong, but IIRC the joystick pinout just
takes a +5v signal and ground, and gives you divided versions for each axis, and swiched
versions for each button.

So, in a nutshell, I was going to use a simple 5v regualtor to generate the +5v signal, pass
it to the appropriate pins on the shell connector, and do a buffered read of each axis.
Also, toss in 4 switch debouncers for the buttons, and your in business.

Is there something hoplessly wrong with this plan? I've already tried a regulator->rocker
pedal input, and it seems to work just fine. This would just be a 4x version of that.

But Ric's not doing MP controlled gear... :) Or is this not MP controlled?
