To buy or not to buy... Advice on defective OB8 needed!

I used to work at the Oberheim factory and indeed this rectifier is the
weak-link in an otherwise built-like-a-tank instrument. Be sure to replace
it with a higher rated rectifier (bend the legs in to make it fit the PCB).
