Sustain Controller Pedal

Hello All,

I am currently building a unit & want to implement a controller
pedal into it, but at present don't know anything about how
to connect up the I/P socket & what voltage to feed it & what
toi expect back from it...?

I take it all the pedal is, is a potentiometer, but do you need
a minimum voltage (I was going to use 5V DC)...?
