I've got a schematic for an envelope follower qround which I'll try to 
scan in some time in the next few weeks.

It's basically a full wave precision rectifier followed by a low pass 
filter, cut off about 40Hz. I've modelled the idea in a program which 
generated vocoder waveforms on a PC and it worked fine.
