To buy or not to buy... Advice on defective OB8 needed!

Hi list,
I need your opinion:
I have the opportunity to buy a *defective* OB8 for 500DM.
Guy says it started to get sorts of 'system crashes', then ceased to show
any reaction at all (except two LEDs on the front panel..). So, sounds like
the *digital* part or what do you think?
What do the OB8 and refurbishing experts here (Juergen, Kevin ?) suggest?
Do I stand a chance that at least the analog voice chips are still
functioning (then, maybe, it would be worth a deal)? And is there any hope
to get the digital part running again?
Did you ever experience equal problems?
All input will be *highly* appreciated.

Damn, I should at last start earning some *real* money such that I'm no
longer dependent on crazy 'deals' like this...
