If you want to build your own supplies, you can utilize a variety of
the simple three terminal regulator ICs available powered by a full
wave 1n400x diode bridge, 500uf (or thereabouts) caps and a wall wart
transformer. Very simple and very inexpensive, especially if you have
some of this stuff lying around. I have gotten very good deals on
(used) wall warts at 'All' electronics in Van Nuys California. These
are also very quiet supplies. I build the silicon stuff on vector
board (with etched stripes). So far, I have used 1 inch by 3 inch
strips of 1/16 aluminum for heat sinks and they get barely warm.
If nothing else, these make great 'bench' supplies.
