  I haven't built anything from his synth book but I have built other
Penfold devices including his digital delay, midi/cv, assorted distortion
units and midi devices such as his auto input switcher and thru box. I've
found his books to be pretty good although there are occasional errors in
the schemos that can be quite frustrating.
