Putney

Hi folks, I came across a Putney for sale and had a few questions. The
guy who's selling it has never gotten it to work. He's not a musican and
happend to pick it up at a school auction in the late eighties. When I
went to see it tonight the electrical cord was loose and since we didn't
have a soldering iron with us he had to hold it to the contacts to power
it up. The power light does come on and the insides are clean. It's in
really nice shape. And the price he offered me is a steal. But, I
didn't have a real good chance to play around with it since he had to
hold the power cord. My questions is this. Has anyone ever purchased a
Putney that wasn't working thinking that they would just repair what's
broken only to find out later that it was unrepairable? My brother has
most the schems but I'm still a little reluctant to buy something that
isn't working. On the other hand he doesn't seem to know how the pins
work so it could be just that the pins aren't patched correctly. I'm sort
of throwing dice her. Anyone have any input? Again, the price is really
really good.
