Um, do resistors really work? (newbie question, help!)

This is a basic diagram of a voltage divider.  The formula for the output 
voltage using Ohm's law gives:

	       R2 * Vin
        Vout = --------
               R1 + R2

So to kill the output signal, you have to choose a small R2 and a large R1...

Hope that helps.  BTW if this doesn't get to the list and other's find it 
useful, please forward it as my mail is currently all screwed up.  I'd 
say that the rest of the list would probalby find this rather 
uninteresting as it's something taught in the most basic EE classes.
