As a past Apple ][ programmer, I can vouch that there actually was a lot of
music software for the unit.
Soundchaser, AlphaSyntauri & Mountain Computer had a large following in
those days.
(I even helped program a MIDI sequencer for Roland's MPU-401 called "MUSE".
It ran on a ][+ or //e.
You can even hit the "A" key and get my initials while running it!)
The Roland CMU-800 was also available back then and featured 6 voices of
DCO's PLUS multiple CV's and gate outputs for analog synths to interface
with. It also had a rhythm voice.
I still have the Mountian Computer boards (with lightpen!), but no software
to drive them. :(
I have the MUSE software too, but it requires an internal MPU-401 or the
Apple I/O card, both rather rare finds nowadays.
I still use my Apple //e occasionally. It has a prom burner in it and a
couple of years back made a program that displays the waveforms in the
Digisound VCDO oscillator prom on the screen.
(I have a 16 channel A/D board for it too and would be willing to sell it
or the Mountain boards for something reasonable.)
My .02 cents....
