simple envelope follower . . .

hi!

can anyone point me towards a very simple (low part count) envelope
follower?  the board i'm working on is packed, but i've just realized that
i really need an envelope follower.  its performance can be marginal.  it
will just be looking at the line out of a CD player to tell me whether
there is ANY signal or NO signal coming out.  sort of like a comparator,
but for ac ??? . . . then i thought i'd take the output of the e.f. into a
comparator to generate the logic for me . . . if anyone has another
suggestion, i'd be glad to hear it - i'm against a very tight deadline!
