I am wondering what the legality is on selling premade/kit effects from the
"Projects from electronic musician" book by Criag Anderton. Can this be
done legally? I am aware that I can't place any of the schematics or art on
the internet, but can one use the designs? I am mostly interested in the 8
x 1 mixer, the ring mod unit and the filter projects. I would like to
produce these in a 1U racks pre-made or as a kit. I have the book with the
PCB art, the equipment to do photo process for PCB's, and a multi-speed
drill press for the finishing work on the boards. I must confess to being a
little green at this DIY stuff, although so far all has gone smoothly.
As a test I built the mixer project from the book. Everything worked out
great as far as the PCB is concerned (using positive boards). I have setup
the facility to expose and etch six 6" x 6" PCB's in about an hour,
drilling takes about about 10 minutes per board. I realize at this rate I
will not turn out thousands of boards per month, but I will be able to get
say 150 boards out in 30 days. That would translate to three different
projects with 50 PCB boards each.
If anyone on this list has designed any effects or instruments and would
like to work with me in providing this design as a DIY kit I would love to
talk with you about it. Although I am not a designer, I would certainly be
willing to make the PCB boards for the kit and collect the needed parts
from various mail order electronics houses (Jameco, Mouser etc).
I would realy be interested in a small mono-synth or percussion device with
5volt trigger capabilty. I am most definately looking for a percussion
device that will produce hi-hat/cymbal type sounds thru either ring-mod or
filtered noise. This type of drum synth would go nicely with MAP's ADV
stuff. Maplin made a unit called the "Synbal" and EH made a thing called a
"Crash Pad", unfortunately niether is made anymore (although hyperreal has
the Maplin schematic). Another approach would be to use a dedicated
"sampler" chip to store the sound/sounds much like the Boss Dr Pad.
Any input on this would be appreciated.
