It's just a thought, but if you're having trouble getting vertical
mount pots, you might consider trying Peavey. They have both vertical
and right angle mounting pots in their mixing desks and amps etc,
they sell them as spares fairly resonably, and they have service
depots in most countries.

PS even the right angle ones have little metal tabs/brackets that
can be soldered into the board, making for a solid, roadworthy
construction...
