A good price/quality compromise is to buy a Weller TCP iron
and build your own power supply. It's only a 24v 2A
transformer in a box. You can buy the soldering iron stand
seperately and it still works out much cheaper than a bought
power supply - and it doesn't fall to bits when you drop it!
This still leaves the minor problem of what to use to solder
your soldering iron supply together...
