A very interesting discussion.
We heard some very reasonable and valuable technical arguments.
I like this.

My $0.01 (absoluteley nontechnical, no offense):

I think the whole discussion is a bit too much into the "perfect"
emulation of mechanical instruments (e.g. envelopes). At least this
point seems to be behind all arguments. I think this is not the reason
and purpose of electronic gear. Nobody mentioned so far that an
electronic instrument has (and also should have) a sound of its own.
The envelope can sound odd or strange to some human ears, that's ok. Why
not?

(But maybe that's only because I'm more and more in the E.M. of Eimert,
Stockhausen etc. , away from T.D. or K.S.)

In the past, people like Tomita etc. tryed to emulate the classical
orchestra sound, then after a while the very specific electronic sound
of the instruments was more and more accepted up to the point of today
where "vintage" sound CD-R offer the very specific sounds of the old
dinosaurs for sampling.

As long as technical arguments are exchanged everything is o.k., but we
have to be very carefull if we get to the aesthetic jugdement of those
tech. findings.
