Mic preamps...

Hi..

	Sorry if this slightly off-topic, but can anyone point me to some info 
about troubleshooting FET preamps, like the type you find in condenser 
mics? My AKG C1000 has suddenly developed this quiet but constant roaring 
sound, which makes it unusable, and I don't want to have to fork out loads 
of dosh for a new preamp if I can avoid it....
