I did some biomed engineering at uni. 

One other thing to keep in mind is that ac currents can flow through capacitive
coupling and can casue dammage. An insulated wire laying across bare skin with 
ac flowing through it can result in a burn mark if there is a good path to
earth. (and that can include leather soled shoes).

Of course this is more relavant if you are playing with Mhz rather than Khz.
