Paul,
I'm collecting circuits and building a modular synth in my spare time, so
I'm curious about Mr. Berry's circuits. Is there an archive or a book
available with schematics etc?
Also, I highly recommend the DMC MX-8 for MIDI routing. I use two of them
in my studio, and one of the two goes with my band's live rig. I've heard
about incompatibilities with hardware and software when using OTHER MIDI
switchers, but have never encountered a problem with the MX-8. I also use
a Mark of the Unicorn MIDI Express PC, which works great, BUT you have to
have the computer turned on to access any routing capabilities. So for
both portable and studio use, the MX-8 is perfect. I do have one further
piece of advice: Shop for an MX8 that has a built in power supply. I used
to have one with a "wall wart" supply, and it buzzed a little where the DC
power jack was, and the LCD readout wasn't as good. The MX8 ALSO does lots
of chores other than routing; you can merge, create chains of presets,
transpose, filter, all in all, a marvelous little machine.
I DON'T work for DMC, it's just that this is one of the few devices I have
dug all the way to the bottom of and not been disappointed. AND, two of
the oldest pieces of gear in my room. I think $150 might be optimistic, a
more typical price might be $200 - $225 (but you never know). You're
probably aware of it, but a good place to shop for this kind of stuff is
rec.music.makers.marketplace
Good luck with your pursuits, if you have any further questions, let me
know. And I look forward to hearing from you re the MK Berry circuits.
