-------------- next part --------------
     Hi again list,

I've been watching the "free design software" thread for a few days
now, and am mildly surprised that no one has mentioned the MicroSim
     evaluation CD.

Who the hell are MicroSim? The people who designed PSpice - the
widely available (and expensive) SPICE circuit simulator for the PC
     platform.

Now, they also produce a demo CD, which has FULL WORKING copies of
virtually all their product range, including: schematic capture,
analogue and digital simulation, and PCB layout (netlists, autorouter,
etc). These are exactly the same as the full commercial versions (I
know, at one company I worked we actually bought a full version of
PSpice, about 3000 UK pounds worth!)

These demo packages are all Windows-based, and are only limited by
node/pin/component counts. For the schematic/simulator it is about 60
nodes, and about 100 or so pins for the PCB layout, but you still get
the full autorouter, which is the Chyan and Cooper SPECCTRA software
(powerful stuff - used by SGS-Thomson to do chip layouts for their
     microcontrollers).

Where to get the CD? Check out their website:
        http://www.microsim.com
where you can download the software and documentation.

In the UK the main distributors are a company called ARS Microsystems
     (tel: 01256-381400) or their website:
        http://www.arsm.co.uk

If anybody wants to play around with professional quality tools a very
low cost (0.00 in your local currency) give this package a go. At the
very least its an educational experience!

     Neil

I was wondering where I could possibly obtain the other two types of
circuit software you mentioned?

Free preferably, if possible. (ie an emulator and a board circuit layout
program) - also, how would I do the board circuit layout from my laser
printer? Is there an ability to do this through photoconductive special
photoresist paper or something?

>For this info, I'd go back to the DIY list and ask there. I don't do this
>stuff, but there are a great number of people on the list who do.

stuffs (?)
anyone care to lend an ear?
J.
