Potting material

I know, so many questions...

What, specifically, might one use for potting small
electronic assemblies?  Where does one get it?  I know
that it's common to pot guitar pickups in wax, but I'm
not sure that's very applicable here.  Seems like we're
after some kind of polyurethane or varnish or something.
Also, has anyone here any experience with rewinding power
transformers?  What did you pot *them* with?

Any suggestions or experiences to share?
