Hi John !
This is not a bad idea ! And you also have the flexibilty to change the
resistor network when you use sockets - good for prototyping. If you use the
resistors as pullup resistor (with one common pin) there is also a
single-in-line version. So a 8 resistor pack has 9 pins.
Oh, another note: There are also smd versions available for the DIYers with
good eyes !
