Rats, I was going to suggest USB (12Mbits per second, 20 meter
cable lengths...) Just got a new motherboard w/ two USB ports
and I have nothing to plug into them :-(

The problem with DSPs is the same as with modulars, you always
seem to come up w/ a patch that needs one more module/DSP.
