The MS-Windows SDK has plenty of relatively simple APIs for both MIDI and
serial port programming.

In fact, I'd be psyched to work on programming an "environment" for this
from scratch in VisialC++, (the new version of which has a pretty
sophisticated suite of "Porting to Mac" utilities)....

So Paul, if you need someone to do this kind of stuff (or even someone to
just lend a hand) let me know...
