parameter jumping NOT zippering :)

Oh that! Phooey! That's just stupid software!
On Titan, I may use LED bar graphs for the parameters (like the VU meters
on some recording consoles). Or, I also like small, 4 digit LED displays made
by Hewlett Packard that are ASCII addressable. Siemens has a pin-for-pin version
in green (and red) that is a teeny tiny 5x7 dot matrix display so you can scroll messages
across like the Goodyear blimp! A company called Lite On has what's called a "British Flag"
16 segment version that is ASCII, but kind of dorkey looking.
Or, killing 2 birds with 1 stone, use BCD encoded puhbutton-style
thumbswitches from Greyhill. That way, the display is "free". But the
user I/O is not as fun as a shaft encoder!

Well, the pots have 512 'jumps': most dorkey stuff has like 16 or 32
'jumps'. Trust me,
you won't tell!!

Ok , prolly didnt explain very well... OK, when i have all my sliders set
on my Odyssey, all the sliders are an EXACT GRAPHIC representation of the
value of the parameters, however, when you have a virtual or encoded pot,
the uP sets the values, but it does NOT usually move the sliders/pots to
reflect this. So, you have no idea, by looking at the instrument, WHAT
values are at WHICH pot, and oftentimes when you move the knob, you get a
totally out of whack result and you really dont know exactly where the pot
was in the first place! All the uP knows to do is wait for a knob movement
and then it JUMPS to that value.. That is jumping. I am into figgering out
a way to deal with this in a reasonable manner so that you get no abrupt
changes in a particular setting when you move the knob (unless you WANT
abrupt changes) so that you can kind of FEEL the position of the pot out
and figger out what way you want to go BEFORE trashing the setting beyond
recognition and looking like a jackass on stage because during a build you
wanted to SLOWLY bring the filter up, and as soon as you touched the knob
which was left in the full CC position the filter SQUEALS for a second,
then comes down to the position you wanted... Mess with a Nord Lead or 309,
they have a BAD habit of this, but no one has ever reasonably adressed
this.. Even the Prophecy is like this.. I feel this is the ONLY real
drawback to most DSP/encoder knob synths.:)) it would be a WAY cool mod for
these synths, BTW!!..
