Upgrading effects chips?

Please forgive the possibly extreme naivete of this query: I'm well out
of my depth here, and have no idea if what I am asking for is easy, hard,
or impossible.

I have a Yamaha V50 FM synth/sequencer/drumbox, which has a fairly old and
simple effects processor on board. At present, the effector is not something
I can use in a serious mix; it's far too noisy. The V50 sounds fine with
only a dry output signal, and I can always record with it that way (and
often choose to anyway), but I'd like to have the option of having the
internal FX for something other than live shows through trashy sound systems.

Are there any places on the V50 where it can be re-chipped or otherwise
upgraded to improve the S/N ratio of the effects section? Or is the FX
totally integrated at the chip level and untouchable?

I wouldn't be doing this work myself; I have a very competent tech who
likes a good challenge. :) I just need to know in detail what, if anything,
can be done, so I can point her in the right direction.

I would appreciate all replies via email. Since I only barely know
enough to pick up the cool end of a soldering iron, I don't subscribe
to synth-diy; my reading about modifications to synths is like a diabetic
with a sweet tooth walking by a candy shop and looking in the windows. :-\

Thanks in advance,

mike
