I was meaning to bring this up. Wouldn't it be good to
define a set of several such standards? Would a form
factor suitable for 19" rack also work well for euro rack
or other arrangements? A little thought and discussion
might need to go into to it to determine these ideal sizes.
But, while everyone's dreaming so big, couldn't we have
a handful of different sizes of PCB and front panel
per module? Something like:
19" horizontal standard (ala Ernie)
19" vertical standard (like FracRac, et. al.)
Euro standard
(etc)
I'm only suggesting defining the form factors. Obviously,
availability of a particular module in a particular size
pcb or panel would be subject to some individual having
submitted such a thing. I'm just suggesting we have a
well defined set of 'slots'.
Ideally, I (or anyone else so impoverished) could decide
on a particular scheme and build a few low-end modules.
Then later, upon acquiring some wealth and fortune, I
slide on up to a better design for a particular module or
modules. After several billion years my modular evolves
into Paul's Titan (which, I suppose will have become and
even higher lifeform) 8^o.
Was *any* of this at all comprehendable?
