OK guys, this is really gittin' me on edge...
A PC ain't exactly a FRIENDLY environment, but it's not impossible to
get VERY good sound out of a PC. I'm using the lowest end sound card
Turtle Beach (used to) make, and I routinely use my PC as a program
source for musical LISTENING. In fact, as we speak, a friend in SD is
sending me another 10 hours or so of MPEGs on a CD (Which my 5x86/133
will decode realtime - in high quality stereo).
What's required are good grounding practices, and decent parts (and in
the case of MPEG, decent software). For example, the first thing I did
with this card was break off that stupid "amplifier" IC. Next thing I
did was replace the cheap, nasty-ass oilcan electros with some high
quality Sanyo OS-CONs (Don't ask me; go to www.sanyo.com and look'em
up). I have a VERY good hifi, and even at full volume the only noise
from this setup is the damn PC fan and hard drive.
