Yeah, I use 19" rack panels for all of my modules these days.
I basically build a module (or dual) in a single space rack panel.
For instance, in Wally (my modular - still VERY under construction),
I have one space that's a VCF, one that's a dual AR Envelope generator,
one that's a dual LFO, one that's a ring modulator - you get the idea.
For "big" modules, I (will) use double or triple height panels. For
instance, the VCO I'm working on will most likely use a 2 unit panel,
so that I can fit all the controls on it that I want. A simpler VCO
design might only use 1 panel.
Ric Miller (ARF) is the one who turned me on to this form factor. He
has some pictures on his web page that you can look at that really show
what such a system looks like. I prefer it for a number of reasons to
the more crowded, more traditional Moog or Serge styles.
