19" rack / where to obtain

While I didn't do it for a modular, when I needed a BUNCH of rack space, I
built a wall (literally) of studs from 2x4's on 19 1/2" centers then bought
rack rails from American Musicial Supply and mounted all the gear "in" the
wall.

The rack rail route is pretty cheap, you can build your own custom
enclosure and do whatever you want to with it.
