Hello again! First of all, I'd like to offer my thanks to everyone that
helped out with the info on the THAT VCA chips. I found that our database
at HMG had the name in it all along.. :) Anyways, if anyone is interested,
I'm thinking of getting a bulk order placed to THAT to get some VCA's...
They're relatively cheap, and I've already got samples from HMG of both the
2155 AND 2159.
The price I can get the VCA's for is $1.50/unit for the 2155 and about
$2.00/unit for the 2159. They come in an 8 pin SIP package, and I currently
do not have any datasheets on them, though with enough prying I should have
some available by tomorrow afternoon available to fax to whomever needs
them.
IMO, these are the best current VCAs on the market, they are comparable in
price to a CA3080 in low quantity, yet kick the crap out of it performance
wise. Some of my colleagues at dbx have told me that THAT is actually
manufacturing the V2 and V8 VCA.
For those of you that don't know, the V2 is the new VCA that was developed
by dbx to put in their new pro series of compressors and limiters, while
the V8 is in the 160S (aka "blue series"), and packs a huge 127DB of
dynamic range and an official THD of <0.002% (though in-house HMG tests
have shown that average V8 THD is around 0.0005-0.0007%). Any questions?
E-Mail me! :)
