sample and holds/opinions for analog sequencer.

Hi,
ESP Paul..
I would like your opinion on building a MIDI syncable
analog sequencer using CEMs, a UART interfaced to mask off
timing signals with a divide by 6 to make two octal multiplexers step
through
gate 1-16. Do you think it would be better to use CEMs or to just use an
analog
multiplexer switch like the ones Analog Devices makes? If i had the switch
type,
I could just have a 12 step pot to select the note, and switch in set
resistor values
to change the octave, or would this setup make the supply voltage falter?
I have had two schools of thought on this one. I figger for the GATE/TRIG
signal, Ill just use a monostable 555, that way then I could later
multiplex through
various resistances to change the note duration individually for each step
also.
Well, enough jabber. Let me know if you have any, OR if, by any chance,
there
is a such thing as a 16 part sample and hold for this type of app? (prolly
not!)
AND if anyone has schematics to other analog sequencer that are NOT micro
based, lemme see em!! :)))
