I want to clarify my meaning when I distinguished between
chip vs discrete designs as I wasn't very precise (or
even accurate). By 'discrete' I did not mean to exclude
ICs in general, but only the special purpose kinds such
as the CEMs and SSMs. I think, judging by discussion
so far, that most seem to have understood my meaning.
But in case anyone read what I said rather than what I
meant 8^), I thought I'd clear this up.
Wow, this thread has been unbelievably good. But I'd
like to make a humble request on behalf of us who are
less informed. When a reference is made the CEM family
chips, it's usually pretty obvious. But allusions to some
other designs can be kind of abstract. I think it would
be extremely helpful to us novices, and perhaps also to
those of you with more experience, to reference specific
available schematics to the degree that they exemplify
or characterize particular design criteria. This would
server to make the discussion more concrete for we the
lowly (slowly?).
I'm sure this is a FAQ: how available are the SSM chips?
I'd like to say that this is one of the most enjoyable
lists I've ever sub'd to -- low S/N, peacible, tastes
great, less filling. What a bunch of adults (meant as
a complement)!
thanks to all of you,
steve
