NOT using CEM / be careful, you might learn.

Subject: Best thing about NOT using CEM

Almost forgot.....
The best reason NOT to use any CEM in a synth is learning how the circuits
behave.
Paul Schreiber
Paul, thats why i havent EVEN gotten involved in the CEM discussion.
Just build little doo-dads, and when you see what you can do with the CEM
chips
afterwards, its about 1000 times better than having a V-8. Plus, then you
appreciate
it more, and besides, discrete circuits are what you make of them, and if
you really
want to, you can build just about anything.
That little comment about the caps: i wish you would have posted that
about
a couple of days ago.. I rigged up an integrated VCO and PLL for an
experiment on
FM mod/demod. We couldnt get it to work at all.. Turns out (1) the output
of the 556
is a 2.6v p-p riding on about 5vdc:way to large a p-p and need to get rid
of the dc NEXT,
come to find out that the cap for the internal filter that generates the
error voltages is
total garbage.. It will work, but not for this application, so we ended up
replacing it with
tantalum.it was mica..never again will i use a mica cap unless i truly know
i can get away with
it..
