What sort of potentiometer?

Hi..

	Just joined; I'm building a processing rack, consisting of various 
Digisound modules, into a 6U Eurocard case. I need some advice on what sort 
of pots to use, ie:

carbon track
conductive plastic
cermet

	Track composition aside, I'm planning on going for small size (less front 
panel real estate) and metal shafts, and mounted on a plate behind the front 
panel, rather than the panel itself.

Any advice on the above options gratefully received
