transistor substitution?

Okay, here's my next question...

I can't find BC557 or BC559 transistors (and I found only one place that has
BC547's...). I need a whole bale of these for my slowly-growing Penfold. Is
there anyone who can suggest substitutions, or, barring that, point me at a
reference to let me find my own substitutions? ("Teach a man to fish," and
all that sort of thing... I'm sure I'll need such things in the future.)

Thanks yet still again... My project slowly grows-- right now, I'm looking
at a 6 VCO, 6VCF (ganged together in pairs), 4 EG, 5 VCA, plus miscellaneous
support modules (2 VC panner circuits have been etched already, and I'm
going to build a lot of simpler stuff on stripboard). All of this will live
in two PAiA fracrack cages. Lots of suggestions from this list have been
pulled into this... I'm already much in debt to people here. Future
planned additions include the infamous DigiSound VCDO (I even have a ROM,
thanks to Chris) and some neat control circuitry for hocketing and
sequencing a friend is mine is working on. An Arp keyboard controls it now,
and probably a Paia MIDI2CV8 will join the rack. Lots of fun! Lots of toys!
